The Artist

Wow—this is hands-down the best movie I’ve seen all year.

It’s perhaps the only one out there to deserve an Academy-Award nomination.

The Oscar-Nominated Short Films 2012: Animation

Some years, I can’t decide which feature I love the most, and which is the most worthy of the Academy Award.

This year, what I can’t figure out why the category even exists if this is the best they’ve got.

The Secret World of Arrietty

Wait, did I just see a family-friendly movie that had NO FART HUMOR?

What it did have was plenty of suspense, whimsy and action, and I can’t wait for the next movie from Studios Ghibli.

This Means War

Reese "Spoon Spoontherspoon" Witherspoon always ruins everything, but this movie is barely about her, & has enough ridiculous action to occasionally make the viewer forget she’s even in it.

Still hard not to wish Chelsea Handler would splash a martini in her face, though.

Chronicle

I love the flying and the toy store pranks—it makes me envy these folks.

And then the cr*p goes down.

Contraband

Not Marky-Mark’s best effort, to say the least.

In the film’s defense, though, I think anybody walking in should be smart enough to know exactly what type of crap they are exposing themselves to.

Haywire

Some serious kick-ass girl power here.

I almost had to catch myself from saying out loud that I’d like to see a sequel.

Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy

It takes longer to recite the title than it does to lose all interest in the film.
The movie does open a bit explosively, but then proceeds to open up your options to a nice, long quiet nap.

Beauty and the Beast 3D

I love seeing this great movie back on the big screen, but of course 3D was unnecessary.

In fact, it seems to inflate any flaws that were there—lack o f attention to detail on background characters, for example.
