Robin Hood

The fact that the advertising screamed this was from the director of Gladiator probably should've told us all we need to know about this film.

Brings little with it in the way of wit, or anything at all special to add to the Robin Hood mix.

Iron Man 2

When a movie is a huge, enjoyable hit, a sequel can become something to be dreaded.

Iron Man 2 is better than I expected-- and, unexpectedly, actually better than the original.

Winter's Bone

Not a comfortable watch, but a captivating, suspenseful one.

Realistic lighting & locations transition viewers from real life into a life they'd really never want to live.

Harry Brown

"Batman's" Alfred becomes Batman-- that is, in a world where Batman carries a gun, & Gotham is a really crappy place.

Michael Caine manages to kick ass & take names, without either lifting a leg or caring about anyone's name.

8: The Mormon Proposition

Should churches place their efforts in politicking, & if so-- should they really be retaining tax-exempt status?

Sure to make wounds feel fresh for some as it sheds new light on the battle, all in a deeply engaging way.

Death at a Funeral

An American remake of a 2007 British film-- and this time they got it right.

Just goes to show that saying the same thing with a British accent does not ALWAYS make it funnier.

Date Night

I lost interest in the story, but I enjoyed the movie.

I'd even come back for a sequel full of laughs and nothing else-- which isn't to say I wouldn't prefer for them to try harder next time.
