Dangal
Probably one of the most exciting sports movies I've ever seen.
And that includes both "Karate Kid" movies (not Rocky, or The Mighty Ducks, though--I've never seen those).

Loving
Unbelievably suspenseful, especially considering that of course I already knew how the court case came out.
What's sad is, I spent a good part of the movie worrying about a Trump administration.

Southside with You
Only two people know what happened on that first date, but it is enjoyable being a fly on the wall.
And also in the broken-down hoopty.

The Man Who Knew Infinity
Even though Dev Patel plays the title character, I could tell it was Jeremy Irons they were trying to get an Oscar, as the cameras started to go low & swirly as that ol' guy started giving a speech.
Now, the speech itself was hardly award-worthy, but give Irons the award, anyhow--not really for this movie, no, but because he was Scar the Lion!

Bridge of Spies
This movie could have lost an hour in its running time, and still have been no more or less interesting.
As it was, the film is interesting--more or less.

Pawn Sacrifice
The movie experience was like watching people playing chess--heavily-made-up people playing chess.
Tobey Maguire was fine, I guess (in a very Tobey Maguirey kinda way), but who I really would have loved seeing tackle this role: Andrew Garfield.

Black Mass

This was pretty rough to sit through: a long string of violent crimes, plus Johnny Depp's makeup.
It would have been nice to have a palate cleanser at the end, like a Jackie-Chan-style reel of hilarious outtakes.

Big Eyes
What a great, engaging, funny film--it actually made me want to go out & read more about the topic!
And kudos to Tim Burton in not ruining the whole thing by casting Johnny Depp.

The Imitation Game
Sherlock Holmes (and/or Khan) & the one woman from Pirates of the Caribbean and some other people have some brainy adventures, and it's really suspenseful & super-cool.
I don't think there's going to be a sequel.

Argo
If you don't love the great drama, you'll love the sci-fi-takeoff-cheesy bits; if neither of those appeals to you, you'll marvel at the real-life roots if the story.
If none of those is the case, to hell with you.

The First Grader
From elementary school directly to the senior center--it's easy when you start school at the age of 84!
Upsetting, fun & fascinating, this "based on a true story" is less formulaic than most of its inspirational ilk that I can recall.
