Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them

Ever since the final Harry Potter movie, Warner Brothers has been trying to find that next Harry Potter, the blockbuster, captivating, spellbinding film series that will recapture the magic and the masses.

And they need to keep on looking.

Black Mass

Black_Mass_(film)_poster.jpg (256×380)

This was pretty rough to sit through: a long string of  violent crimes, plus Johnny Depp's makeup.

It would have been nice to have a palate cleanser at the end, like a Jackie-Chan-style reel of hilarious outtakes.

Into the Woods

I don't know why this movie got so much hate; it was awesome!

Except for that Johnny Depp--that damned, damned Johnny Depp.

21 Jump Street

More recycled material, but who knew it would have been such a funny movie-- and Ice Cube was hilarious!

In fact, I only had two major problems with the whole thing: Jonah Hill & Channing Tatum.

Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides

I was kind of looking forward to seeing this fourth "Pirates" movie, having heard that it was shorter than the others.

Unfortunately, I don't think it was at all short enough.

Rango

Definitely not for kids, though of course people will be toting their babies in regardless.

Funny bits, and amazing textures--ILM seems more than capable of giving Pixar a run for its money at some point.

The Tourist

I wasn't expecting a lot from this movie, but it ended up being very pleasant & enjoyable.

Of course, I couldn't watch it again, because knowing what we know at the end, much of what preceded makes little sense.

Alice in Wonderland

The good news is that this Alice is not as annoying as in the original Disney version, always going around calling everything "silly."

The bad news is that Anne Hathaway's performance in this film is horribly, annoyingly, silly.

The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus

Heath Ledger turns into Johnny Depp turns into Jude Law turns into Colin Ferrell, leaving viewers' heads spinning.

Only one thing is for certain: Vern Troyer cannot act.
